Medical Lawand Ethics Essays

Medical Lawand Ethics Essays Medical Lawand Ethics Paper Medical Lawand Ethics Paper In this medical case, it is described how Johnny, a 2-year old boy, has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and needs blood transfusion immediately since his hemoglobin count has dropped to drastically dangerous levels. According to the medical report presented in the case, Johnny could die should his hemoglobin continue to decrease because it is essential in delivering oxygenated blood. The problem and ethical dilemma in the case, however, is that the boy’s parents, Sarah and Tom, are practicing Jehovah’s Witnesses, which is a religion that prohibits any form of blood transfusion among its members. Personally, I believe that having a professional code of ethics played a vital role in actions of the healthcare team in addressing Johnny’s illness. As stated in the case, there are other alternatives to treat Johnny’s condition. The alternatives that the team used are oral/intravenous/intramuscular preparations of iron and Epogen, a colony stimulating factor that can be used to trigger the patient’s bone marrow to produce new blood cells. However, Johnny’s health continued to deteriorate and he required immediate platelet transfusion, which is against the religion of his parents. But a court order ruled that in case of a life-threatening condition, the boy must receive transfusion and so the parents had no choice but to allow it. Upon analyzing this case using the Three-Step Ethics model, three questions must be asked: Is it legal? Is it balanced? And how does it make one feel? Evidently, the answers to all those questions are yes because the healthcare team could’ve ignored the patient’s religion and proceeded immediately with a transfusion. However, the team chose to forego the procedure until it is immediately needed, which showed that they acted in accordance with their professional code of ethics and the laws of the patient’s religion. Moreover, although Sue, the nurse who administered the transfusion, felt guilty with her actions, in the end, the results proved beneficial to all parties. Johnny was able to recover from his illness and has been enabled to live a healthy life again. In short, the actions of the healthcare team was generally ethical because they exercised judgment based on their professional code of ethics,, acted according to the laws of both the state and the patient’s religion, and most of all, saved the ill boy’s life. A Guide to Writing Japanese New Years Cards

A Guide to Writing Japanese New Year's Cards .The Japanese send New Years cards (nengajo) rather than Christmas cards. If you want to send nengajo to your Japanese friends, here are common greetings and expressions you can write to wish them all the best for the new year. Happy New Year All the following expressions roughly translate as Happy New Year. Choose any of them to begin your card. The saying is listed in kanji, or Japanese letters, on the left and in Romaji- the  writing of Japanese in  Roman  characters- on the right. 明㠁‘㠁 ¾Ã£ â€"㠁 ¦Ã£ Å Ã£â€š Ã£ §Ã£ ¨Ã£ â€ Ã£ â€Ã£ â€"㠁„㠁 ¾Ã£ â„¢   Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu.æâ€" °Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã£ Å Ã£â€š Ã£ §Ã£ ¨Ã£ â€ Ã£ â€Ã£ â€"㠁„㠁 ¾Ã£ â„¢   Shinnen omedetou gozaimasu.omedetou gozaimasu.è ¬ ¹Ã¨ ³â‚¬Ã¦â€" °Ã¥ ¹ ´   Kinga Shinnenæ Ã¨ ³â‚¬Ã¦â€" °Ã¥ ¹ ´   Kyouga Shinnenè ³â‚¬Ã¦ £   Gashouè ¿Å½Ã¦Ëœ ¥   Geishunè ¬ ¹Ã£â€šâ€œÃ£ §Ã¦â€" °Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã£ ®Ã£ Å Ã¥â€"Å"㠁 ³Ã£â€šâ€™Ã§â€ ³Ã£ â€"ä ¸Å Ã£ â€™Ã£ ¾Ã£ â„¢   Tsutsushinde shinnen no oyorokobi o moushiagemasu. The rest of the expressions can be used as a greeting. Expressions and Phrases After the greeting, add words of thanks, requests for continued favor, or wishes for health. Here are some common expressions, though you can add your own words as well. The saying is presented first in English, then in kanji, and then in Romaji. Adding the Date When dating the card, use the word gantan (å…Æ'æâ€" ¦) instead of the date that card was written. Gantan means the morning of Jan. 1; therefore, it is not necessary to write ichi-gatsu gantan. As for the year, the Japanese era name is often used. For example, the year 2015 is Heisei nijuugo-nen (Ã¥ ¹ ³Ã¦Ë† Ã¥ ¹ ´), the 27th  year of the era, Heisei. Although nengajo are often written vertically, it is acceptable to write them horizontally. Addressing Cards When sending New Years cards from overseas, the word nenga (Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã¨ ³â‚¬) should be written in red on the front side along with a stamp and address. This way, the post office will hold the card and deliver it on Jan. 1. Unlike Christmas cards, nengajo shouldnt arrive before New Years Day. Write your name (and address) at the left side of the card. You can add your own message or draw the picture of the present years zodiacal animal (eto).   Who to Send Nengajou To The Japanese send nengajou not only to family and friends but also to classmates, coworkers, and even business partners. However, personal nengajou often play an important role in connecting people. There were many heart-warming stories about nengajou submitted to The Memorable Nengajou Contest (Nengajou Omoide Taishou). Here is the top prize-winning short story in kanji, followed by the story in Romaji. ã€Å'Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã¨ ³â‚¬Ã§Å  ¶Ã£ £Ã£ ¦Ã£ ªÃ£â€šâ€œÃ£ §Ã£ â„¢Ã£ â€¹Ã£â‚¬ æ˜ ¨Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã£ â€¹Ã£â€šâ€°Ã§ § Ã£ Å¸Ã£ ¡Ã£ ¨Ã¥Æ' Ã£ Ã¥â€¡ ºÃ£ â€"㠁Ÿå Ã¥â€¦ Ã¦ ³Ã£ ®Ã¥ °â€˜Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã£ Å'Ã¥ °â€¹Ã£ Ã£ Å¸Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ¦ ¯ Ã¨ ¦ ªÃ£ â€¹Ã£â€šâ€°Ã¨â€š ²Ã¥â€¦ Ã¦â€ ¾Ã¦ £â€žÃ£ â€¢Ã£â€šÅ'〠Ã¤ »Å Ã£ ¯Ã© ¤Å Ã¨ ·Ã¦â€" ½Ã¨ ¨ Ã£ «Ã£ â€žÃ£â€šâ€¹Ã¥ ½ ¼Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ¥ ®Å¡Ã¦â„¢â€šÃ¥Ë† ¶Ã© «ËœÃ¦   ¡Ã£â€šâ€šÃ£â€šâ€žÃ£â€š Ã£ ¦Ã£ â€"㠁 ¾Ã£ £Ã£ Å¸Ã¥ ½ ¼Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã£â€šâ€™Ã¨ ¦â€¹Ã£ â€¹Ã£ Ã£â‚¬ Ã£ â€ Ã£ ¡Ã£ ®Ã§â€"…é™ ¢Ã©â€¢ ·Ã£ Å'è ª ¿Ã§ â€ Ã¨ £Å"åŠ ©Ã¥â€œ ¡Ã£ ¨Ã£ â€"㠁 ¦Ã©â€ºâ€¡Ã£ £Ã£ Å¸Ã£â‚¬â€š Ã¥ ¹ ³Ã¥ â€¡Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã© ½ ¢Ã¤ ºâ€Ã¥ Ã¦ ³Ã£ ®Ã¨ ª ¿Ã§ â€ Ã¥   ´Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ¥ Ã¥â€¦ Ã¦ ³Ã£ ®Ã¥ °â€˜Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã£ Å'æ ¥ ½Ã£ â€"㠁„㠁 ¨Ã£ â€œÃ£â€š Ã£ ¨Ã£ ¯Ã¦â‚¬ Ã£ Ë†Ã£ ªÃ£ â€žÃ£ Å'〠Ã¥ ½ ¼Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã£ ¯Ã¦ ¯Å½Ã¦â€" ¥Ã¥â€¦Æ'æ °â€"㠁 «Ã£â€šâ€žÃ£ £Ã£ ¦Ã£ Ã£â€šâ€¹Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ£ ²Ã£â€šâ€¡Ã£ £Ã£ ¨Ã£ â€"㠁 ¦Ã©â€º ¢Ã£â€šÅ'㠁 ¦Ã¦Å¡ ®Ã£â€šâ€°Ã£ â„¢Ã¦ ¯ Ã¨ ¦ ªÃ£ ®Ã© ¢Ã¥ ½ ±Ã£â€šâ€™Ã§ § Ã£ Å¸Ã£ ¡Ã£ «Ã¨ ¦â€¹Ã£ ¦Ã£ â€žÃ£â€šâ€¹Ã£ ®Ã£ â€¹Ã£â‚¬â€š Ã¥ Ã¤ ¸â‚¬Ã¦Å"ˆå Å Ã£ °Ã£â‚¬ Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã¨ ³â‚¬Ã§Å  ¶Ã£ ®Ã¦ ºâ€"備㠁 ®Ã¨ © ±Ã© ¡Å'㠁 «Ã£ ªÃ£ £Ã£ Å¸Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ£ Ã£â€šâ€œÃ£ ªÃ§ § Ã£ Å¸Ã£ ¡Ã£ ®Ã¤ ¼Å¡Ã¨ © ±Ã£ «Ã¤ ¸ Ã¦â‚¬ Ã¨ °Ã£ Ã£ â€ Ã£ ªÃ© ¡â€Ã£ §Ã¥ °â€¹Ã£ Ã£â€šâ€¹Ã¥ ½ ¼Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ§â€ž ¡Ã§ â€ Ã£â€šâ€šÃ£ ªÃ£ â€žÃ£â‚¬â€šÃ¦ ¯ Ã¨ ¦ ªÃ£ ¨Ã¤ ¸â‚¬Ã§ ·â€™Ã£ «Ã£ â€žÃ£ Å¸Ã©  Æ'㠁 ¯Ã£â‚¬ Ã¤ ½ Ã¥ ±â€¦Ã£â€šâ€™Ã¨ » ¢Ã£â‚¬â€¦Ã£ ¨Ã£ â€"㠁 ¦Ã£ â€žÃ£ Å¸Ã£ ¨Ã¨ Å¾Ã£ â€žÃ£ Å¸Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ¥ ¹ ´Ã¨ ³â‚¬Ã§Å  ¶Ã£ ©Ã£ â€œÃ£â€š Ã£ §Ã£ ¯Ã£ ªÃ£ â€¹Ã£ £Ã£ Å¸Ã£ ®Ã£   Ã£â€š Ã£ â€ Ã£â‚¬â€š 㠁 ¿Ã£â€šâ€œÃ£ ªÃ£ §Ã£ â€œÃ£ £Ã£ Ã£â€šÅ Ã¥ ½ ¼Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã£ «Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã¨ ³â‚¬Ã§Å  ¶Ã£â€šâ€™Ã¥â€¡ ºÃ£ â„¢Ã¤ ºâ€¹Ã£ «Ã¦ ± ºÃ£â€š Ã£ Å¸Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ£ Å¸Ã£ Ã£ â€¢Ã£â€šâ€œÃ£ ®Ã¥ ¹ ¸Ã£ â€ºÃ£ «Ã¥â€º ²Ã£ ¾Ã£â€šÅ'る㠁“㠁 ¨Ã£â€šâ€™Ã© ¡ËœÃ£ â€žÃ£â‚¬â€š ã€Å'åˆ Ã£â€š Ã£ ¦Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã¨ ³â‚¬Ã§Å  ¶Ã£â€šâ€šÃ£â€šâ€°Ã£ £Ã£ Å¸Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ¥ ¤ §Ã¥Ë†â€¡Ã£ «Ã© ¡ Ã£ «Ã© £ ¾Ã£ £Ã£ Å¸Ã£â€šË†Ã£â‚¬â€šÃ£â‚¬ ä »â€¢Ã¤ ºâ€¹Ã¥ §â€¹Ã£â€š Ã£ ¯Ã¥ ½ ¼Ã¥ ¥ ³Ã£ ®Ã¦ ºâ‚¬Ã© ¢Ã£ ®Ã§ ¬â€˜Ã© ¡â€Ã£ §Ã¥ ¹â€¢Ã£ Å'éâ€"‹ã â€žÃ£ Å¸Ã£â‚¬â€š Ã¥ ¹ ´Ã¨ ³â‚¬Ã§Å  ¶Ã£ ¯Ã£ â„¢Ã£ ¹Ã£ ¦Ã£ ®Ã¤ º ºÃ£â€šâ€™Ã¥ ¹ ¸Ã£ â€ºÃ£ «Ã£ â€"㠁 ¦Ã£ Ã£â€šÅ'る。 "Nengajou tte nan desu ka." The Business of Sport and Entertainment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The Business of Sport and Entertainment - Essay Example (Fullen, pg 287, 2006) The PESTEL analysis for this theatre is one of an important task, which should be done in an orderly manner in order to generate better outcomes. (Grant, pg 551, 2002) All the external factors should be properly measured and all the areas should be covered in order to know all the external factors, which can harm this theatre, and those factors, which can be the positive as well as useful for this theatre. All the factors should be considered well before the working of any project, in order to overcome any upcoming problem. (Babette, pg 228, 2008) The political element directly refers to political stability in any nation or country and also explains the political support for any business, direct or indirect. Main issues concerned with Rose Theatre are funds related, the theatre management has asked Kingston Council for around  £600,000 a year of council taxpayers’ and there are political pressures against proposal also (Surrey Comet, 11th November 2008). On the other hand, an economic element refers to the degree of market stability as well as freedom. There are other factors also to understand like how much the business is costing and how much it can generate to keep competitive. In the case of Rose Theatre the Kingston Borough Council has been supportive and has provided funds worth  £5m and also supported in other ways, now is the turn for the theatre to generate audience and money to keep running (Billington, 6 December, 2004). The social element refers to the demographic factor of any country or nation. Rose Theatre has one feature which is uncommon, it accommodates people at low prices to take front space and settle on cushions to watch plays. It attracts a large audience because of its status as one of the best theatres in town and has had many big names step onto its stage for productions (Britton & Worthington, p.181, 2009). The

Health Systems Administration SLPs Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Health Systems Administration SLPs - Essay Example g White Americans, prejudicial attitudes toward minorities remain more common than not, as over half to three quarters believe that relative to whites, minorities – particularly Africa Americans are less intelligent, more prone to violence, and prefer to live off welfare (Bobo, 2001, as quoted by Smedley, 2003). This discrimination often translates to how health care professionals relate to their patients, with whites often giving preferential treatment to fellow whites and being less solicitous of Blacks and other ethnic minorities. Socioeconomic factors are factors that pertain to the economic status of the patient and economic factors that affect availability and accessibility of health services. This factor is sometimes seen in the thousands of patients without health insurance and those who cannot afford to pay for their medical bills. Socioeconomic factors eventually affect the delivery of health care services as seen in hospitals unable to afford the hiring of more medi cal personnel or unable to purchase medical equipment. The last factor affecting the delivery of health care is personnel shortage. At present, the United States is experiencing nursing and other medical personnel shortage. For nurses alone, National Surveys revealed that in the year 2006, 2.6 million full-time practicing RNs were needed nationally. Personnel shortage affects health care delivery in the sense that fewer personnel available to care for patients inadvertently increases work load for available medical personnel. Possible work overload affects the quality of health services. It also affects the number of patients that the hospital can accommodate. Hospitals cannot be compelled to admit more patients if they know they cannot care for them. As a manager, I would deal with racial/ethnic factors in the workplace by setting a good example. As manager, at times, I am asked to deal with hiring manpower or personnel. In these instances, I will consciously monitor

Classical Mythology in Abstract Expressionism Essay

Classical Mythology in Abstract Expressionism - Essay Example The essay "Classical Mythology in Abstract Expressionism" investigates classical mythology influence on abstract expressionism. The influences of depicting Classical Mythology begin with the thematic work that is accepted with both Surrealists and Abstract Expressionists during both time frames. The main ideology is based on creating the universal theme of humanism that is a part of every experience. The modern artwork depicts this by taking the mythology and relating it to the human experience by representing the mythology from a different perspective. The ideology was to take the idea of humanism and to create a modern approach to the myths that would combine the poetic expression of the artwork and the humanistic ideologies related to the myths. Instead of the stories representing the ancient and mysterious, both artistic movements created a sense of duality with the mythology. This was dependent on the mysterious and the human that combined together to create a sense of poetic me aning with the artwork. By doing this, artists were able to create a sense of meaning through the subject matter which could be depicted in modern society. The importance of the humanistic approach was not only to express the universal themes of duality between human nature and the myths. This was furthered with the time frame in which the artists were developing the portraits in. Many that were depicting the artwork focused on the social and political agenda of the time, specifically with the movement into modernism. The social and political approach was one which consisted of conflicts in society, stress which many were under because of political agendas and change that was continuously moving forward during this time frame. The themes were based on the tension of those who were living with the humanistic side, as opposed to the political and social agendas based on status, violence and struggle. Depicting these themes became an important aspect of the work in both time frames, sp ecifically because of influences of war, political leaders and social change that continued to move forward through contemporary events and ideas which followed (Bernstock, 1993: 153). An example of the artwork that showed the humanistic side and the social and political stresses came through works such as Andre Masson and Jacques Lipchitz (see Appendix A). The work of Andre Masson, Myth of Sisyphus, shows the French Surrealist viewpoint of conflict and humanism during the time. The myth is depicted by a boulder being rolled up a hill, only to continue to roll back down. This is followed in Greek mythology by a king who moves into power but doesn’t follow through with wisdom, instead ruthlessly killing thousands and betraying the gods. The influence of the 1930s was one which was created through the political agendas leading to war as well as the philosophical belief that there wasn’t meaning behind this. When looking at the painting of Masson, it is able to follow the myth of the ruthless actions and the boulder only going back down the hill. Masson does this by making the boulders appear out of place and time, each which carries the same myth as is depicted in the Greek legends. By doing this, Masson is able to create a link to the political leaders of the myth that deceive the gods to the present day, in which the same

News Article Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

News Article Analysis - Essay Example As asserted, due to the apparent higher expected supply of corn in the current year, the FAO index was reported to have exhibited an average of 199.1 points for the month of September; which was measured to manifest a 1 percent decline from the average points reported in the month of August. The more prominent change was reported to be a significant 5.4% decline from the average points reflected at the start of 2013. These trends were accurately pinpointed to be sourced from the significant level of production or supply of corn; of which the United States was reported to contribute as much as 348 million tons, or a 27% increase, from the production level in 2012. The favorable weather conditions this year, in conjunction with the greater expanse of acreage allotted to corn production were instrumental in the increased supply for corn in 2013. The article is related to the economic topic of demand and supply, particularly how markets respond to changes in demand and supply. From the e xplanation that was provided, there is an apparent impact on the increase of supply of corn to the world prices of food. With greater supply, and assuming a constant demand, the impact would evidently mean a decrease in prices of commodities affected by the abundance in supply of the mentioned product. In this situation, the global cereal production, composed of wheat and corn, was projected to manifest an increase in supply. It was clearly revealed that â€Å"global cereal production, which includes wheat and corn, is expected to be 8% higher over 2012’s level, at 2.49 billion tons. The U.S., the world’s largest corn producer, is responsible for the bulk of the increase, expected to harvest a record crop of 348 million tons—that’s 27% higher than the previous year† (Rai, 2013, par. 4). Likewise, another international agency, the International Grains Council corroborated the trend through their own projections that indicate production of corn to in crease to 943.2 million tons; while wheat supply would reach 692.6 million tons. Therefore, given that the demand remains on a fairly stable level, with no significant or considerable increase, the impact of the increase supply would be an evident decrease in prices of food, which is measured through the FAO index. The article provided greater insights in terms of the repercussive effect of economic components of demand and supply from one market or economy to another market or to the global market, in general. The incident could actually be evaluated as macro-oriented in terms of the supply of corn and wheat being instrumental in impacting other food products that uses them as their raw materials or main ingredients. Evidently, the impact is not restricted in the domestic market, such as the United States where the supply or abundance in production was seen to rise to significant levels. The fact that the U.N. FAO regularly monitors demand and supply of basic commodities only confi rm that there is a stronger repercussive effect as markets are seen to be closely correlated through economic activities and movements of economic indices. Since the United States has an overpowering impact as a powerful nation to other international economies, any significant changes in basic raw materials would have important effects to other economies in terms of prices of commodities. It would therefore be crucial to anticipate these changes to prepare other
